The Mops song was fast-paced and fun, like a lot of J-Pop; I have no idea which of the gazillion yakuza/spy thrillers from the 60's that clip may have been pulled from, but it did remind me of my own favorite Japanese pop music/movie connection.

One Mops single or another used to always turn up in all the Nuggets/Garage band/Psychelicatessen type collections. Can't remember which one. I think Alison Kraus is a tremendously talented woman... I remember seeing an interview with her ages ago though where she said her favorite bands were Led Zeppelin and Metallica....

"I'm Just a Mops" is on the second recent Nuggets box set (the international one). I must be pedantic here and point out that so far as I know, the term "J-Pop" was coined only in the '80s or '90s - and so any resemblance of a '60s band to that music is pretty much coincidental.

If you've heard the last couple Plant CDs, he's definitely capable of toning things down - so that's not so surprising.

As long as we're being pedantic, I don't think "coincidental" is the word you're looking for here. "J-pop" is very much influenced by '60s kitsch and music.

Oh, that's not Alison's strangest collaboration, not by a long shot. This is: http://www.kovideo.net/music/video/Alison-Krauss-and-John-Waite---Missing-You/769.html
