As long as we're listmaking, here's a short list of film characters with the word "Rat" in their name:

Ratatouille

Ratzo Rizzo

Technically, the first film mentioned could also appear on Paula's list.

Hang on--is "Ratatouille" a character?

In any case, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will amend my list when the appropriate time comes.

"Ratatouille" is the name of the lead character in the film -- who happens to be a rat.

It's also the name of a delicious vegetable dish!

Paula - 2007-10-01 17:54:27
I thought his name is "Remy."

Janet - 2007-10-01 18:45:26
Paula's right. Remy is the rat. Ratatouille is his signature dish.

I got confus-ed -- which has been known to happen from time to time -- I go through a somewhat more rigorous fact-checking procedure when I write about movies on my own blog.

Film name: Willard and Character: Shredder

My brain is like swiss cheese. Wait... was Willard the guy? Ben was the rat, right? He had another rat named Socrates. I remember that much.

Paula - 2007-10-01 20:32:30
Willard is the guy.

All this talk of rats and faulty memories has got me thinking of "Flowers for Algernon"/"Charly" -- oh wait -- was that a mouse or a rat in that story?

What about "King Rat"? OK, it doesn't technically fit the category, but it is a great film from the early sixties, or maybe I'm just a sucker for sweaty British-soldiers-maintaining-their-dignity-in-POW-camps-type movies. Also, check out George Segal in the role of a lifetime.

Must not forget "Brother Rat" starring Ronald Reagon. All about the merry, no, gay! hazing process at VMI.

Since you mentioned Bruce, there was "Magic Rat" driving his sleek machine you know where.

"...Over the Wyoming state line..."

Thank god Bruce is from Jersey--none of those songs would have worked with other state names.

Janet - 2007-10-02 22:29:46
Not to be a troublemaker, and my allegiance is with Jersey of course, but "Georgia" scans.

Also could use "Cali"
