I heart IHoP movie reviews!

I guess I've seen all of Wes Anderson's movies without realizing it, except for this one & the short, which now I gotta see.

Is it Can? The band, I mean.

I'm not sure that my mega-affection and affinity for Wes Anderson is really felt in that blog post, though--I mean, I really get what he's doing, and I luff him.

Nope, not Can. I like Can, though!

The short, Hotel Chevalier was -- as of last week -- available as free download on iTunes (I believe it still is, for a short while) -- it's a nice, self-contained, preface to The Darjeeling Limited

What, Kraftwerk??
-------------------------------
Paula - 2007-10-05 13:40:11
Kraftwerk were on Phillips and EMI...but they share a producer/engineer with the band I am currently interested in.

Gregstein - 2007-10-05 13:40:16
Hmmmm.. The Monks formed in Germany but were Americans. Popol Vuh???
-------------------------------
Paula - 2007-10-05 13:42:05
I like PV, but I think I may have written about them before.

This is more of a rock band, at least they were at first.

Gregstein - 2007-10-05 13:52:32
Only other band from that era that I can remember, but don't remember the label is Neu! Were they on Polydor?
-------------------------------
Paula - 2007-10-05 14:01:07
Interestingly, yes they were, and I like Neu, too, and I take some small, pathetic pride in knowing how to pronounce their name, but that's not who I'm a-likin' today.

grigorss - 2007-10-05 14:03:56
Amon Dl?
-------------------------------
Paula - 2007-10-05 14:06:19
Nnnnnope! All good guesses, all good krauts, and as always, Grigorss, thanks for the excellent umlauts!

Tim W. - 2007-10-05 14:09:25
Faust?
-------------------------------
Mr Lojban - 2007-10-05 14:18:14
grigorss is correct. Thanks, grigorss. Now I will be able to indulge the Wes Anderson fandom I didn't know I had.
-------------------------------
Paula - 2007-10-05 14:40:51
Ah, Faust! I don't know much of their music. Do you? Any tips?
-------------------------------
Tom G. - 2007-10-05 15:45:29
If you are like me and do not have an iTunes account, you can stream the new Wes Anderson short here. (Not as good quality, but it's not awful.) Can't wait to see DL especially after seeing the short. I would have to say my favorite Wes Anderson would have to be Life Aquatic. It just seemed like he was having such a joyous time making it and putting it together. That feeling came through for me.

"Gregor Samsa und die Verwandlungs?" Wow, Paula. Your band knowledge is so impressive and amazing. You should have a blog....oh, wait...Seriously, do you also write reviews in other publications?
-------------------------------
Tim W. - 2007-10-05 20:32:39
Faust are one of those bands that I enjoy when I hear, but have somehow never made a strong impression on me. So I don't really have any tips. Now I'm trying to think of other German bands on Polydor... hm... Birth Control? Slapp Happy were awesome, but not actually German. Oh well, I'm looking forward to finding out!

Paula - 2007-10-05 20:34:15
That's nice of you to say, Sharon, but compared to many of my friends, I'm but a rank amateur of geekitude. I write album/film/book reviews for a meta-data provider, so a lot of my writing is online at retail sites, but blissfully anonymous (so when I say "This new Enya album is brilliant," I need not fear for my cred.)

I liked The Darjeeling Limited too, but I thought it went a minor level down from his last three movies. I saw Rushmore for a fourth time tonight at the Sunshine at Midnight, and rediscovered how much I liked it. Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic still remain my two favorites, and I owe Tenenbaums for the movie that got me into movies.

I remember how the Royal T's impacted you. You were a precocious pre-teen at the time.

Paula - 2007-10-06 09:53:07
Tim W: didn't see yr comment til now. Emusic has a Faust album--I downloaded a 16-minute track this morning, let's see what kind of damage it does...
