The lack of "buzz" for the World Series has more to do with the fact that it only went 4 games. If it had gone 6 or 7, the buzz would have hit people outside of my spectator-sports sphere. Also, the whole NY Yankee situation sucked a lot of oxygen from the WS.

That makes sense.

I, for one, am over the moon! And I saw a skywriter today! The only bummer is having a long postseason with no games.

a long postseason with no games... ?

They'll start airing the pre-season games in less than four months! Why is the most interminable sport the one with the longest season? Why are the players called "The Boys of Summer"? Why aren't they called "The Boys of Spring, Summer, and damn-near most of Fall". At least there's one brief season of relief from it.

I am assuming some of your hatred of Baseball (and I gather sports), is an egghead vs jock thing. If so, and even if not, you me and other largeheaded folks should find some solace in Boston Red Sox being a team run by some of the eggiest heads in town. The front office is chock full of PhDs in Mathematics. There is a touch of "Revenge of the Nerds" in the Red Sox dethroning the Yankees as the premier franchise.

I've never seen Black Snake Diamond Role but have most if not all of the songs on another album, if they're the same mixes. Some of my favorite RH stuff.

Actually no; I used to play Football quite avidly as a lad growing up in Queens -- sandlot football, but Football, all the same -- every Fall between the ages of 9 or so and 13. Shortly thereafter I decided I'd rather have functioning kneecaps into my middle age, and as a consequence, played much less frequently -- but I still thought of it as fun.
So no, I'd have to say my hated of baseball is just directly tied into the stupefying tedium of it.

I had a ratty old CD of BSDR from who knows when - turns out more recent versions (including the new one) feature a version of "The Man Who Invented Himself" without the ghastly mellow saxophones (I do like it better saxless) and do not feature "Dancing on God's Thumb." It does feature a raft of bonus tracks, many of which were on Invisible Hitchcock. I don't know that any of the main tracks on BSDR were ever on other albums (other than live versions), though. I plan on posting those two orphaned tracks to my blog shortly, though.

The BlackSnakeblahblahblah bonus track "Happy The Golden Prince" (which I first heard on a BOB flexi-disc, how I miss those) is very good and very funny and I'm shocked that I didn't quite understand it when I first heard it. There is a video on youtube of the Osmonds doing "Crazy Horses" from the same general rock period as The Plan, and you simply must watch it if you haven't already. http://youtube.com/watch?v=MyRiNZDb5EY
