"This product is not available in high altitude areas."

I noticed that--that's to prevent people from accidentally jumping off cliffs in ecstasy after they've tasted it.

What Chris has kindly provided at the link above is the helpful article, "Ice Cream Shrinkage: A Problem for the Ice Cream Industry."

It's not just a problem for the Ice Cream Industry anymore--it's truly a burden we share as a society.

The Lithuanians I've met (all 3 of them!) have been pretty "silky"--tall, blond, blue-eyed, soulful. But I guess the phonetic funniness of their homeland can't help but elicit chuckles, like say, the word "Buick", or "Hackensack". It's funny how everything "French" is shorthand for sophistication in our country,e.g.,"La Yogurt" (probably made in Hackensack). Is that French Silk ice cream really that amazing--better than Haagen Dazs? (from that Scandinavian state of Oakland, California, by the way)

Sharon--I like Haagen Dazs, too. Edy's may not rock your world if you're used to really good ice cream, but compared to regular, run-of-the-mill supermarket brands, especially "low fat" ones, I think this flavor is outstanding.

High altitude works for me. My thighs get much slimmer.

Mr. Party and I discovered Edy's Slow-Churned last year. At first we were excited because it's so much cheaper than Ben & Jerry's, and as you say, much better than regular supermarket ice cream. But then I realized, that just means we can eat more, which is not such a good thing. There is in fact a commercial for Edy's pointing this out (schlubby guy in undershorts dances a jig of joy at the idea of seconds).

Little brooklyn Heights Trivia. The Haagen Dazs store on Montague and Henry is the original store. Started by polish family from bronx (who now make it in NJ). Thats all

Tragically, being deeply lactose intolerant, I cannot enjoy any of the delectable, dairy-infused foodstuffs being slavered over today; that being said, Tofutti makes a damn fine faux-ice cream sandwich

I'm fortunately just a little lactose intolerant which makes everybody else MacWindy intolerant... that's cool though because when I'm alone I don't have to share.

Chris, Thanks for the Haagen Dazs correction. I must make a pilgrimage to Brooklyn Heights. All roads lead to Brooklyn these days it seems...

The French are very silky. However the tagline for Thai Airways is "Smooth as Silk" and Thailand is famous for Jim Thompson, an American who established silkworm farms and a huge industry of silk production, then one day just walked into the jungle and was never seen again. Thai Silk Ice Cream just doesn't have the same ring though.

I don't know, but if I hadn't stopped eating ice cream (ok I cheat once in a while) about 20 years ago, for the simple, and I think understandable, reason that I like it too much, Thai Silk Ice Cream (if it existed) might just provoke my curiosity, and my innate desire for milk fat, to the point of submission.
