a movie does not have to be well-acted, well-written, or bear any resemblance to reality in order to be utterly satisfying

Well I've been saying this for years; I suppose it's just one of the Great Mysteries (like how did the ancient Egyptians build the Pyrmids anyways?) -- that a film is more than the sum of its parts and sometimes even when the parts are pretty lousy the resulting film is nonetheless pretty great -- the alchemy of cinema at work.
I have to admit that Velvet Goldmine did not exactly win me over upon first viewing; but being as I like all the rest of Todd Haynes filmography an awful lot -- and have found all the others worthy of multiple viewings -- I think perhaps I will revisit VG.

I first learned about Polari not unappropriately via Morrissey and the album title "Bona Drag" ("nice outfit").
