Although I live on the other side of the highway, I hear those horns also. I love them. Especially when there are more then one, and they have various pitches. They must be really loud where you are!

I love that phrase "nautical call to prayer" Now whenever I hear one of those inexplicable 12 noon firehouse honnnnnks in suburbia, it will come to mind.

Yeah, certain neighborhoods in New Orleans you hear that. That and good church noises. ...And regarding bad church noises, did you hear of the outrageous double standard (not that what she did wasn't wrong) with that 79 year old nun who just got sentenced to 20 years or something for having sex with some sixth grade boys when she was their principle FORTY YEARS AGO? Compared to the knowing enabling done by certain males higher up in the church hierarchy, who got no jail time whatsover, and the male molesters they protected, many of whom got no jail time, there seems to be a decided lack o' balance there. And though there is no question it was molestation in her case, they did, presumably, vote with their thangs, so a LITtle bit of a double standard the OTHER way would not be outrageous, but Jeez.... (Sorry, back to pleasant noise....)
