I'm dying to see Atonement. I think James McAvoy is the bomb!

He is so great in this! He is my Scottish movie boyfriend. (Step aside, Alastair Sim!)

I loved him since I saw him as Mr. Tumnus in Narnia!

Neither one of you are into Robert Carlyle? I think he's the coolest living Scotsman on film, but my operating criteria might be different.

James McAvoy has the finest arse I've ever seen on a Scotsman.

McAvoy's certainly a fine actor, and I've got no opinion re: his "arse" one way or the other, but I'm betting that he's got to be a better choice as a movie boyfriend than Alastair Sim -- less geriatric, at the very least. That being said, McAvoy could not be a better Ebenezer Scrooge, however -- no one could.
As far as Scottish movie girlfriends go, I'd have to pick Tilda Swinton; ordinarily not quite my type, but she makes up for it with smarts and a superabundance of charisma.

I'd say Kelly MacDonald, but she's kind of too young.

For Scottish charisma, I'd have to say the prize goes to Groundskeeper Willie.

I'm only half Scottish so my right buttock is non-pareil. The left leaves a bit to be desired. Groundskeeper Willie is a great choice though!!!

I'm def. going to agree with Greg up there with Kelly MacDonald. Mint.

Well, my Scottish movie boyfriend has always been Ewan McGregor, but James McAvoy would be my backup. I do love that accent.

Paula, I just love reading your film reviews. My ex was American of Scottish descent. In his youth he looked like one of William Wallace's warriors with long orange hair. Pity his behavior was ridiculously bad. I think I'm better now. Though my heart does beat a bit faster whenever I see a man with pink freckly skin, red hair, and giant iridescent white feet. By the way, Joe Strummer did a version of Minstrel Boy with his last band in homage to his Scottish roots. He referred to his Scottish uncle as the original punk.

"giant iridescent white feet"... worthy of Tolkien!!

Bina, to quote Paula.....ha! :)

I'll take Shirley Henderson as my Scottish movie girlfriend. Thanks!
