"You can't kill a pig if he's wearing people clothes!" Oh I loved that movie.

I have to say that I felt much the same way about The Diving Bell and The Butterfly as yourself. Having never been a pampered, cravat-wearing handsome charmer my own self (and such a development seems unlikely this late in the game), it was difficult to empathize (other than in a basic, wouldn't-wish-what-happens-to-him-on-my-worst-enemy kind of way). Have to say, though, that while technically impressive, I sometimes found the whole enforced-P.O.V. visual schtick gimmicky at times (and given the visual scheme of some of the films I like, that might sound like hypocrisy on my part; so go ahead, accuse me -- I've been accused of worse). One of the great things about film is that it does allow for multiple P.O.V.s; it might have been more interesting to see the story presented in a way that allowed for that. Still and all, there's alot to recommend about Diving Bell... -- maybe just not quite as much as I was expecting.
also, RE: "Why does everything I whip leave me?"

Well, maybe you're just whipping the wrong class of people --err, excuse me, "snow-dogs"

The Visconti book is available on paperback for just 3.75 from amazon.co.uk. And The Simpsons Movie was one of my top five films of 2K7.
