Okay -- but the old fans are more stalwart in their praise than ever.
I'm 100% with you on Baked Lays -- yes, the first attempts at baked 'tater chips did taste like some sort of mutant/zombie variation on that foodstuff, but Lay's has finally perfected it; I can't eat regular chips anymore -- they seem too greasy in comparison.

Thanks, G.

And yes, I fear there is no turning back. I haven't been able to drink a non-diet Coke in years, either.

Please note that I am not making any sort of lame pun based on the notion of "Baked Lays." Thank you.

Anyway: I must object to the Fischer/Barrett comparison. Yes, Barrett had maybe a few apples short of a bushel...but he was never a hateful bastard. Fischer's ferocious anti-Semitism (despite his having Jewish ancestry himself) is unforgivable, and I think Syd was less crazy than people like to think: I think he was sane enough to realize he couldn't stay sane in the world he was in, so he left it.

Please note that neither was I -- as far as I can tell...?

They were both about the same age/generation, famously reclusive, and (probably) schizophrenic. That satisfies the prerequisite for a fleeting, facetious analogy, according to the Blogger's Handbook.

Baked Lays rock - I've been eating them for years. I like the Sour Cream & Onion ones best, but unfortunately my local Safeway doesn't stock them.
