Go, Eli!

I admit that when my cable first went on the fritz, I sometimes entertained myself by shouting out made-up cases/docket numbers in my apartment. Soon after that I canceled my cable.

That's a nice story.

When in the thick of a 24-watching period, if someone asks me what time it is, I can't control myself from answering in a Kiefer Sutherland voice. "Seven...ay EM."

I haven't had cable now for nearly 2 years and broadcast reception being what it is I only get 1 channel at a time, either 5 or 7 and both too fuzzy to watch anything but the weather (HOLY CRAP IT'S ALWAYS SNOWING). I think that it's enhanced my appreciation of moving viewing. It seems to be more of an event to watch a DVD slide into the machine than when I had 4 movie channels and never caught a movie from beginning to end but somewhere over the course of a month I'd see an entire film in bits and pieces. Netflix is fun too... can't believe I held out for so long. And Paula, what you just said there reminds me of that Golden Earring song... It's 3 a.m.

Go Eli! Strange coincidence, I watched LAW & ORDER for the first time in years last night. I was addicted to it all through law school, but stopped watching it when I became an ADA. Guess it was too much like bringing work home with me. Eli made a very good "bridge officer"! Watching L&O with my new-found perspective, I still think it is commendably realistic in many respects, and takes outrageous poetic license in many others (like, in last night's episode, it is incomprehensible that the lead prosecutor would so blithely pick that weirdo juror that had been swept up at the '04 GOP convention in a high-profile murder case). But I like the new castmembers, and E. really likes the show, so now maybe I'll be back to watching it.

Thanks IHOP readers! I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that they didn't reshoot the entire scene because of my act-ions. I also like it that they didn't dub over my voice, which happened to me once before. This morning I played and paused it for my kids and put my real head up against my TV head so they could compare which one they liked better. They couldn't decide. They wanted a third choice...George Clooney I think.
