My view on Spitzer; Vote Hillary, its time to hand the keys to the women because us men are awful.

I don't know all the details of the whole "Spitzer Scandal", but what I have heard just sounds like a business arrangement between two consenting adults -- not sure I understand the extent of the hullabaloo over it all; as far as I'm concerned, he could have anal sex with a giant deep-sea squid* and I'd be OK with it -- as long as I agreed with his political agenda and felt that he was otherwise doing his job.
On a related note, those D.C.-area escorts sure are pricey -- $4,300, Yee-oow!!!

* -- provided, of course, the squid was consenting...

Your comment made me wonder if squids actually have anuses, and it turns out they do, so that is a viable option for the adventurous libertine.

I, on the other hand, would question his judgement in the extreme if he solicited a Blowjob from a squid. And Chris, a woman (who no one on either side wants to give credit to) has already had the keys. Hilary would not be the first female president. That would be Nancy, during Reagan's second term. And granted she delegated authority, but she was the one who fired the chief of staff, and, by looking out for what she genuinely felt were Ronnie's interests, she probably saved the country from being run quite as badly as recently. She's someone who has held it together over the years, without whining, even though she received as much scorn (though perhaps not hatred) as Hilary. She was in the loop when Ronnie was out of it (and moderated his presidency) and deserves a little historical credit.

In fact, part of America's prob is that it too often equates how pushy you can be (regardless of gender) with strength, at the expense of equating how supportive you can be (regardless of gender) with strength. (Not surprisingly, since pushy people tend to push that first impression....)

Bob - 2008-03-21 16:30:25
Oh, and if he solicited a Handjob from a squid, I would think he has excellent judgement....

Paula - 2008-03-21 16:36:17
But what if it was a squid-pro-quo situation?

Are you asking when is barter prostitution?

Paula, your last comment reminds me that some MC somewhere really ought to call him/herself "Kid Pro Quo." The issue with Spitzer, aside from the moral issues many people have, is his hypocrisy in on the one hand focusing on prostitution as a crime while on the other availing himself of its services.

Paula, when I was in Dubai, I went to the Cold Stone Creamery, and it was nice stuff, but then my cousin took me to the Marble Slab Creamery, where they pound the ice cream on a marble slab and it tasted like a little cup of heaven.

I agree with 2fs about the Spitzer issue, and I am extremely disappointed he had to go but I agree with it. What I haven't read much about and Palast touches on this, it looks to me like all the recent domestic spying rules changes were apparently brought to bear on this case. It was initially reported that his large money movements sort of triggered the FBI to look into his dealings but upon closer examination, the money wasn't all that much relatively speaking. It sure looks like we have a case of somebody with access using it to take someone down.

"Once...": yes on Nancy. Of course then there was the great Eleanor Roosevelt who suffered at the hand of the vast right wing conspiracy. Political women just seem to drive some people nuts.

I don't buy the Nancy-was-the-power-behind-throne theory. I'm gonna need some more proof...

Next time you're at Cold Stone Creamery, try ordering blueberry ice cream with bits of graham cracker crust mixed in. If it doesn't make you weep with pleasure, you're not human.

Bob - 2008-03-22 14:22:31
I don't buy the Nancy-was-the-power-behind-the-throne theory either. Rather, she was pretty much the one behind the controls - by necessity - without bragging* about it (*and, as such, not on a "throne"), during Ronald's second term. And, not having any experience flying a gummint, she let the autopilot do its thing, but then ripped out a piece of it when she felt that that piece was making the plane fly in ways that would give her diminished capacity loved one, who was still nominally on the throne, a bad name.

(In other words, that ain't what I was sellin', so I don't care if you're not buyin' it, MissC... but I've been trying to give-away a lost e-mail address here, seemingly with no success [would it help if I knew what a bfob was?])

And just for clarity's sake, my silly take on the Spitzer thing is, like, a duet karaoke performance of Big Black's "Bad Penny", with Ashley and later McSkeevey's ex- singing, rather than "I think//your girlfriend once... maybe twice... and then//your friend's girlfriends...", this instead: "I think I f'd the governor once... maybe twice... and someone f'd the governor's lieutenant governor...." "Yeah, well, I f'd my governor AND his driver, freely....". And of course they'd haveta title their duet "Bad Penny Opera". Is there a tri-state equivalent of the Gridiron Dinner?

This is the first I've ever heard about Nancy having any control over the direction of the Reagan administration. Quite frankly, I don't think the vice-president of the day would ever let Ron or Nancy even hold the remote control for the television.

Did anyone actually read the article I linked to? It's not about Spitzer frequenting prostitutes. It actually restores a little bit of my respect for the guy, at least in his attempts to act against the Bush administration's awfulness.

chris - 2008-03-24 10:43:33
Yes I did. Thats one of the many sad parts of the Spitzer story. His views/ideas where wonderful. I find the authors view on the bailout to be wrong, but I am going to guess I am in the minority on this blog.

If women presidents are to be mentioned, it would be wrong to neglect Edith Wilson. I think the claim that she wielded real power is stronger than that of either Mrs Roosevelt or Mrs Reagan amongst historians, FWIW.

MacGregor - 2008-03-24 12:14:05
My frustration with Elliot Spitzer is that he made himself vulnerable. What he did with his personal life was of no concern to me. I always, for the most part, loved his politics.
