I think the nostalgia process has become compressed--like MP3s--and now we're on a ten-year cycle.

Paula: Interesting on the compressed generation idea. I do think that mass media and forcefed misinformation has created a ten-year cycle. It did used to take about 20 years to complete a cycle but it's so obviously halved now. 10 years makes a much more vast difference in sensibilities... though none of this has stopped old dudes from pursuing little girls.... so I guess it's all relative.
