"If people can't tell the difference between the Republican Party and the Libertarian Party, maybe they shouldn't be voting." Win.

"Devil came up to Michigan" is also full of Win.

Coincidentally, someone on the Robyn Hitchcock list noted that Powers story...but mostly on account of his hair, which makes him look like a disturbing cross between Henry Spencer (Eraserhead, as played by Jack Nance) and Spencer's creator, David Lynch.

Really, that's the best they could do, is make fun of his hair based on that one photo? Fran's a cool guy, this is a very exciting bit of grass-roots activism on his part, and the human interest story behind it is fascinating, too.

"Really, that's the best they could do...": A story in the Staten Island Real Time News (http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/06/the_son_also_rises_for_congres.html) was forwarded to the list, just the URL, with the subject line drawn from one of the commenters' remarks. I don't think anyone on the list knew the guy - but c'mon, the guy's hair is at least unusual. Of course people commented on it. My opinion of libertarians is that they, generally, are shockingly naive about the efficacy of business and the market and correspondingly over-cynical about people in government. I mean, anyone who'd argue that businesses are not often grossly inefficient, riddled with corruption and favoritism, and often dedicated to hurtling headlong toward dubious short-term goals has never actually worked for a large-ish business.
