WIWATSP? though.... Thinking no. But lots from the Dirtbombs "If you don't already have a look" did, and I thanks ya (the new one you liked is still on the way). Don't understand why that band isn't more widely popular. Maybe they "lack a political base", fan-wise? (Though I assume that they're kidding with their song "They hate us in Scandanavia", given their sound.)

The Dirtbombs are not big per se, but the people who like 'em tend to be fanatical, so it all evens out on the fan intensity meter.

Well, having sampled their first three albums more, I now understand why the Dirtbombs aren't more WIDELY popular. Speakin' of "power-pop", I seem to prefer the Dirtbombs when they head that way, rather than power-soul/garage-soul (though maybe garage-pop is more what I mean... or motorcity modness). At any rate, their last two of five are the ones I like... which is an unusual trend for me with a band. (I do, however, understand that that fourth one isn't necessarily their fourth, periodically.) Also, I like how they do and don't mangle the lyrics in "Lupita Screams". They thankfully get "New York causes pain and boredom, in between the seas" right (rather than "in between the scenes", which I had always sloppily heard it as, when listening to the Gun Club), and they bloop "the ripper's got your poor head darlin" to "got your forehead darlin", and, bloop "The taxi has been following you, it takes you down the stream, your boat has crossed to the center of town, and it looks like a business dream" into "The taxis have been following you, they chase you down the street, your boat has crossed to the center of town, and it looks like a Christmas treat", and bloop "you stop in at the re-hab station, with the salesman of your dreams" into "you need some warmth and re-lax-ation, with the salesman of your dreams"... and yet, oddly enough, it all works. (Though I HAVE gone with the original at the skatepark.)

I wouldn't call myself fanatical, but the Dirtbombs are definitely one of my favorite bands to see live. Ultraglide in Black is my favorite of their albums. I've been a Mick Collins fan since seeing The Gories ages ago. Also followed Danny Kroha into Demolition Doll Rods who are a panic, even if Jon Spencer butchered the production of their second album. But the Dirtbombs... I can posit a few ideas on why they're not more popular that may or may not be accurate... mostly I just don't think there's much of a market for straight ahead rock and roll.
