Oh, no! What happened to the Sony? I have to defend the really weird "camera work" there. I was so close to Sam I didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable by being obvious about filming her, so I was just holding the camera in my lap, pointing it in the general direction. I was surprised it came out with them in the frame at all!

It's a fine video! The sound is surprisingly decent, too.

The Sony got soaked in olive juice at the bottom of a shopping bag, and although I managed to save and dry out the memory card, the camera itself just gave up.

But the new one is great, and also has a video feature which I intend to use a lot...

I got very upset seeing the Razzles, Mentos , Kisses, and Sweetarts improperly presented. Shame on your bodega! And the Twizzlers akimbo have put me right off my fresh fried lobster. Ho Jon -- you get me some ketchup!

The photo is staged. The upside-down Razzles symbolize the breakdown of our social fabric, and the M&Ms represent the redemptive peanutty goodness of the newly rejuvenated Democratic party.

Thank you for the fantastic Sam Phillips video! I'm going to see her for the first time at Borders in San Francisco on Saturday, and I can't wait! Were there a lot of people there, and how did you manage to videotape her without her seeing you? Very cool!

Hi Jill:

That video was taken by a friend with a digital camera (see first comment above).

It was surprisingly not crowded! I'd estimate 50 people, mebbe? But they were a respectful and enthusiastic crowd. She did about 5 songs. Have a great time when you see her on Saturday....

Thanks, Paula. Sorry - I didn't read the other comments before asking about the video. I would probably be too nervous to do that - I'm freaking out enough about getting her autograph on my CD! Only 50 people? Just shows you how the general public has no taste when it comes to truly great music!
