Independence from ego... I can't think of a loftier goal, and I say that with the utmost sincerity. Yeah... independence from yearnings. My favorite version of the second video here, by the way is on Dave Alvin's King of California album. I did love the X's See How We Are album though... every cut, more than anything else they ever did. I'm glad they quit after that it was so good. I saw the Statue of Liberty today from a schooner in NY Harbor, and it's hard not to be moved with Ellis Island in the background, thinking of the boats coming in seeing it for the first time.

A lofty goal indeed... but is it a noble, reasonable, prudent, wise, and/or fun one? I'll be independent from yearnings when I'm dead... (and yes, I'm counting on not yearning to be alive at that point), but 'til then, I'm depending on the dern things to keep me going. Independence from pinings, I could see....
