I saw Patti in the late 70s in a ballroom in Morgantown. I was 20 feet away from her and totally mesmerized. I wanted to ask to be a roadie. Devote my life to her.Anything. But I had a math test the next morning and thought better of it. My mistake. It remains my all-time favorite concert.

At the end of all my thoughts about the film, I came home tonight and just wanted to hear Horses also. and I wanted to read these passages from William Burroughs from Wild Boys which flow at the same cadence. It made sense... the way that Naked Lunch made sense suddenly at this weird point some 20 years after the first time I read it. So I was out at lunch today and Javier the barman was talking about Patti Smith... confluence... I said I'd seen the film and he told me how she had really opened up his eyes about what rock and roll really meant. A very good connection.

"Rock'n'Roll Nigger", or Rock'n'Roll Retard? I'm going with the latter... with apologies to the mentally challenged.
