At least dogs speak to you, Dog-Whisperer. My dog just scratches me and eats my hair. I agree with you about the yoga video vs. the actual experience of a class. You need to have a teacher yelling in your ear, "Breathe, breathe, don't forget to breathe!" Rodney Yee won't do that, no matter how cute he is.

That's right Paula, and better than any old video is the book, Yoga for Travelers by P. Carino. I'm at this stage where I physically cannot go to a yoga class, I have so much egoic resistance I fall into a state of complete panic. The good side is, my ego compromises by backing off and letting me go into a deep meditation at home. My ego and me, a story of bargaining, by erich kuersten

Well, kudos on the deep meds.

Yeah, I resist goin' to class sometimes. I resist teaching sometimes. It's funny how the mind keeps trying to trick you.

Actually, he's not that cute, now that I think about it. The other thing I find about yoga videos is that they are divorced from the Eastern spirituality that yoga is all about. They just strike me as generic exercise videos set in exotic locations.

what's even better is the "asana competitions" on youtube. They compete for best yoga pose, and then there's the people who complain in the comments that "this is not in the spirit of yoga, which is noncompetitive" and then you can meditate on how even by judging the yoga pose competition as wrong, you become un-yogic.

I dunno - was it a yoga video I saw that involved the arrival of a very well-built plumber with an enormous wrench? Maybe that wasn't yoga...

Erich, as for un-yogic, I refer to the "wear it as long as you can" anecdote from the Qaukers

The Quakers, not the Qaukers, although they're good, too.
