Eisenhower was the last republican presidential candidate I would have even considered voting for; Stevenson's more progressive platform aside, he seemed like the right man for the job at the time (and if you check out Ike's wikipedia page, you'll see that a lot of historians -- both liberal and conservative -- seem to agree)

I voted for John Anderson in 1980 - he'd been a Republican but ran in the Presidential race as an independent. But otherwise...

Eisenhower suffered some of the same hate mongering as Barack Obama. His democratic opponents started rumor-mongering about Ike's supposed Jewish roots... and of course that was such a horrible thing to be!!! Those who haven't learned from the past.. and all that.
