(5) I'm looking forward to... taking about three weeks off from work... and visiting friends and family out of state.

Nice--where ya goin'?

Flo-bida -- not my favorite place to visit, but I haven't seen my brother in quite a few years at this point; and many friends as well. Not my favorite place to visit -- but even I find the climate tolerable this time of year.

Flarda's what you make of it... whereas, f'rinstance, Kansas, is, well, Kansas. Which is why people don't (defensively?) dwell on not digging the latter. Not criticizing... just sayin' try to enjoy. (Incidentally, regarding the rapper equivalent of Flo-bida, Flo-Rida, [or however he spells it], an aging skate buddy told me his rapper name is O-Rida [speaking of plains states... though beyond being tatersome, the latter two at least have some nature left].)

Though not so much in the plains parts, I guess. (And I've got nothin' against prairies... it's just that they're mostly long gone.)

(1) I feel hopeful about winter. (2) I feel optimistic about ending my dependencies on things. (3) What made me happy this week was having Indian food with my "work wife." (4) What gave me such relief today was a hot bowl of caldo gallego at lunch. (5) I'm looking forward to New Years Eve in Jamaica.

his rapper name is O-Rida

Some coworkers and I were riffing on Flo-Rida's name a while back, coming up with new state-proud rapper names. These were mine:
New Jay-Z
Ex-Con Neticut
Rho-Die Land
Del Aware

My happy was also related to Indian food, with my "work sister." Actually I couldn't get out and she brought it to me, and put the exact right amount of red and green sauces on the delicious pancake thing. Chennai Garden, 129 E 27th St, NYC.

(5) I'm looking forward to dinner at Go!Go!Curry with my friends K.&A. (2/3) whose family & friends in Bombay emerged safely from the violence.

Confidential to P.C.: Don't look at my blog post from yesterday; it's got anger in it.

I feel hopeful that India isn't going to nuke us in retaliation for the Bombay attacks. I feel optimistic that I might be able to lose some weight. What made me happy this week was spending time with my friend Nigar who's visiting from Seattle. What will give me relief today (the day's only just started) is when my dad comes through his cataract surgery okay. I'm looking forward to nothing at the moment.

I feel hopeful about the world getting its head on straight in my lifetime. I feel optimistic that I will get out of debt in less than 5 years. What made me happy this week was planting 2000 tulips all over San Francisco. What gave me relief today was getting through a huge work to do list with nary a hitch. I'm looking forward to freezing cold weather and maybe snow when I go to the Midwest on Sunday. It would give me relief today if India does not nuke us. I have not read the papers today. What did we do this time? I wish all the trouble makers would go bomb each other in a safe out of the way little box so the rest of us could live carefree and happily. Tulips really hate nuclear winter.

B's in Pakistan, E. And I hope it's not to much to hope that "out with the Bush, in with the Obama" will have some influence on India's reaction.

I hope that our present culture of consumption will give way to something a bit more thoughtful, considerate, and solicitous

With all due respect for the suggestions tendered above, the Connecticut state rapper simply has to be "The Connecticut Kinetic Kid." (Gotta say it out loud, though...) Also: I was disappointed that the "gorilla twins" link wasn't about Oasis.
