Hancock is two really mediocre movies that joined together to form one really awful movie. I read pieces of the original script, which was very dark and a serious thriller. I guess then Will Smith got signed on they decided to make it a bit more comic, but tried to fit the dark material in there too for the ending. But after the first thirty minutes ago, and the drastic change in tone ruined any chance of that movie being anything more than "just ok." It did not fit at all.

I'm so not into Will Smith, despite that I did laugh at both Men In Black films... and Wild Wild West had a few chuckles even though anybody could have done as well in these roles. I thought Tommy Lee Jones was much funnier. I hated Smith's portrayal of Ali, and Art of Happyness I thought was entirely dull... though I know it's a true story and I've a lot of respect for the guy it's about.

Yeah -- the poster for Hancock ought to be the illustration next to the dictionary entry for the word "misfire".

P.S. -- and I'm dreading the potential Will Smith/Speilberg re-make (re-tread? re-gurgitation?) of Oldboy (which is one of my favorite movies ever). It's just not the type of material that either is good at -- or even comfortable with, I suspect...
