It's taking me much longer to get into the new FC&R album compared to the last one. It's less ambitious in sprawl, to be sure...but it's more ambitious in other ways (if weirdness is ambition, for one). It seems like Harrison's doing this thing where he sort of hides the tunes...they're in there, but they're sort of like dishes whose flavors pass through several stages, and the one that sticks with you might not be the one you first notice. (There was a little of that on the first one - I remember struck that "This Is Really a Book" was quite odd the first time I heard it, and after a while I couldn't remember why I thought that, because its melodicism had so ingrained itself that it sort of overpowered the unusual arrangement.)

Yes--e.g. the drum stuff that happens on "Epcot" about 2/3 of the way in. Like when did Tony Williams join the band?

grigorss is in complete agreement with you as regards the whole "3rd person referent" thing on facebook -- but cautions that if you start doing it in "real" life, it may be time for counseling...

I've only listened to Peoria once, but I liked it, and liked that it was different. Nothing quite as instantly amazing as "Birds Of Prey", though. The Doubtful Palace thanks you for the link a few posts back.

The subjective reality of the online experience fascinates me... SIMS, Second Life etc. Even the online personae that people develop for chatrooms and message boards are boggling! If you ever become disenchanted with whom you've become online, you always have the option of topping yourself

I've been listening to Peoria this week too. "Mummified" was the first song to grab me, though I thought the last three minutes could be trimmed off. Short attention span, I guess.

I tried to join Second Life once, but I couldn't figure out how to go beyond the starting island. A nice metaphor for my life, I would think.

I loved the first FC&R album instantly, but have been challenged by Peoria, probably because I don't like being reminded of the four years of my life I spent in Peoria, IL.

I tried Second Life once, and I kept walking into rivers and oceans...it was so much nicer walking around underwater than hanging around in "real life." Also a metaphor for my life.

Nice one, RT! The truth is that I can hardly figure out my first life, let alone the Second One. Anyway, did you read about that ridiculous couple that got a divorce because of the husband's infidelity with another avatar in SL? It was hilarious.
