The Magic 8-Ball tells us that Abe Vigoda, born in 1921, is still alive. Lou Grant, however, stopped rolling his eyes at Mary and Ted many many episodes ago.

Loved the Martin/Fey bits esp. the not-so-subtle Scientology dig. That surprised/delighted me.

Abe Vigoda does bits on Conan o Brien from time to time, and Asner is still working. As for the In Memory segment, the presentation was awful. I could hardly read the names because they placed the screen so far away. I too wish Peter Gabriel/Thomas Newman won Best Song. Not only is it a nice song, but Newman is one of the best working film composers around and he's due an award one of these days for his amazing and unique scores. As for winners-my votes were for Rourke and Hathaway (or even Richard Jenkins), but Sean Penn and Kate Winslet both had good work too in their respective films.

I am here to announce Mr. Grant's Resurrection. He has risen! I swear I thought he was gone for good this time.

1. Sorry I missed your show. 2. I always wonder why every year we have to read/hear all about how the Oscars are too long and how hard the producers have worked to make it "tighter." EVERY YEAR. And I think to some extent these writers and showbiz people who say this must somehow hate the Oscars, you know? They love them, EXCEPT for that fact that they are long and unwieldy. (That's like loving Robin Hitchcock except for his singing and guitar playing.) I LIKE that the Oscars is a big sprawling mess. I mean, I don't have much choice -- that's what they ARE, what they have always been, the ESSENCE of their odd, goofy charm and glamor .. And one thing I especially despise is that the one thing always try to save time on is the ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES!!! That's crazy!!! Those spontaneous moments are the true beating heart of Oscar night, NO winner -- especially Paula's "regular" guys and gals, who are often already nervous as hell -- should have to worry about the clock when making an acceptance speech, OR WORSE -- have the cut-off music come up and drown them out while they are in mid-sentence. I think that is so rude and stupid -- it's like saying "Fuck you" to the recipient and to the audience, and it cheapens and demeans the value of the Oscars for everyone. I hope they cease that abhorrent practice. It's disgusting. (They never think to trim the endless commercials, do they?) 3. Unrelated, but -- PAULA! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ABOUT "I Used to Say I Love You"?????????????????????????????? (Apologies for yelling if in fact you did tell me and I just completely ignored it.)

1) No prob, really! There will be more

2)Excellent point. Remember the Oscars (mebbe 4 or 5 years ago) when they made all the non-celebrity winners stay in their seats and not get up to the podium? Like, "Just sit--Please don't ruin it for the pretty people!"

3) Funny, that's one of my favorites. You can lead a horse to water.

Someone put "Under the Frog" in your tip jar?

Indeed. Or near it. I think it may be someone we both know.
