Oh Paula, I'm sorry. SlurmCo was lucky to have your talent and wit and passion. I hope the next place you land will realize what a gem you are.

don't you kinda sorta want to know how to make your dance partner fly through the air like that? Maybe sans khakis. Oh no. Sorry. Now I have to get naked swing dancing out of my head and it my own danged fault. Paula. OtherThingsCo. will be lucky to have you. I have a job opening out here with EW Fine Garden Care that starts June 1st. Just saying.

A very nice tribute, and you're right that it's all too rare that a job can mesh with one's interests and loves (without draining the passion from it: sometimes I'm very glad I didn't do what I'd originally intended to do, which was to try to make a career in academia writing about music...). It is also deeply sad that your situation (not the being laid off, the having the job in the first place) is so rare: that people expect their jobs to be drudgery, full of feigned interest, or settling-for. Or that, expecting the same, people never develop interests in the first place, only ordering them from the highlighted items already on the menu.

I heard about the Macroglobocorp aquisition last week, and wondered about your future. High hopes for a happy one, and I'm relieved you haven't rolled up your blog carpet yet.

Paula, sorry to hear about the layoff/acquisition -- i hope it ultimately leads to good things. And I'm glad SlurmCo has be good for you; I'm sure you were good for them. Take care.

well worse than swing dancing in khakis (or even without) was the swing flu epidemic! http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/cartoonlounge/2009/04/swing-flu.html
