Oh, don't be concerned -- the anger will follow, soon enough...

I think you may be tarring the article with headline, which would have been written by an editor. The bit about "women in jazz" reads to me merely as the writer saying he thinks that a point was being made in the programming though he had no proof that there was. The rest of the time, he's just reviewing the music. And his lede has nothing to do with that at all. I've had plenty of pieces spun by an inappropriate headline -- it drives me crazy. Your larger point is a good one, though, and it is a terrible hed.

You are far more patient than I am, Robt--I didn't read much past the second paragraph, the headline still burning my retinas...

I can't be apologetic. Without the headline, the gist of the article is clear. The show could easily be reviewed as a jazz show. The writer, without the editors, and despite what may have been cut, chose not to and that is clear. It's just all tired. It is really tired. Consider that Bad Brains and Living Colour, for example, were very rarely reviewed without color being part of the text. I don't think I have EVER read an article about a female musician where sex wasn't a focus of the text. It is old. It should jsut be over by now.

The world is set to "male" by default, perhaps to assuage masculine egos over the fact that we all start out female in the womb. Sometimes I think the "y" chromosome stands for 'stupiditY'.
