I felt the same way the other day when I was in an okay to good mood and a bunch of songs from Ida's "I know about you" album came onto my ipod and for some reason I didn't switch it immediately off. The late 90s sadcore stuff is so linked with my own miserable early sobriety/depression/denial that it's like a drug of a downer... okay if you're already feeling that way, as it speeds up the process, but rather like what you phrased it, "crying porn"?

I know that button. It only produces a minor cathart. Still needs to be pushed sometimes, but it's a river. Nice writing, kitten.

I like a lot of movies that others find depressing, but I wouldn't have enjoyed your experience with Marley. When you can't get distance and are plunged into your own pain, I think that means that you're not going to be able to turn this movie into art this time around, that you should just try another subject. We all have our limitations in terms of what we're able to be detached and God-like about, and those limitations shift around during our lives.
