Cropped pants: dorky.

BAM Rose Cinema is having a brief Pacino salute, and yesterday Dan S. and I caught Cruising, a movie I never would have thought to see. Dan reminded me it was by the same director as The French Connection, which I loved, so I was game.

It shares the look and sensibility of TFC, a vague moral pulse beating through the dying body of pre-Giuliani NYC...but the pulse loses out to futility and despair and almost inevitable violence. Pacino does a Springsteen imitation throughout, against a pounding new wave soundtrack.

Movie was followed by a necessary trip to Cake Man Raven, best bakery in Fort Greene.

Saw The Sharp Things at Mercury Lounge last night. Lovely chamber-pop featuring Perry Serpa's expressive vocals and solid, sad songs. Good show.

I'll be celebrating the anniversary of our independence from British tyranny by doing some laundry and BBQ-hopping.

Happy 4th o' July, everyone! And don't forget to weigh in on your favorite founding father .

Perhaps we're all sick of reading about the damn arena, but this article (reg.. required) stands out for having some choice quotes by the Wombat.
