Because there were so many themes going on, there wasn't a cohesive feel. No chant lasted more than a few rounds, no group seemed to be bigger than a few, and there were many folks like me and a few scattered friends who were just marching as individuals. Still, the message was clear: so many people alienated by the current administration, so many people pissed off that the Republicans are here, exploiting the memory of 9/11 for their little soiree. The coffin project went well--what a powerful visual image. At the end of the parade route, dozens of people were breaking down the cardboard coffins and folding the flags appropriately. I folded some with a friend, and it was therapeutic. Now: laundry. Photo from NY Times:
