Sharples' record release party last night was great fun! As I recently mentioned, I'm a sucker for an all-covers record, which is what we were celebrating last night.

John's band--Andy Mattina (bass), Joe Filosa (drums), & Mike Culhane (gtr & vox)--sounded like they'd been playing together for years.

The record is really good, too. John, when are you going to add ordering info and all that on yr site?

Watched Down and Out with the Dolls yesterday...It's about a Portland-based band a la Sleater Kinney, and its trials and tribs, and features a bunch a very accurately portrayed band types, including the obnoxious and devious lead singer, the earnest riot grrl songwriter, the stoner drummer, and the Justine Bateman-in-Satisfaction-type gal who keeps it all together.

Is it a good movie? Well, no, it's amateurish and clunky, but one feels curmudgeonly dissing a film that tries to show us a slice of life that few other films show. I also liked that the actresses (and actors for that matter, although they are scarce) in the movie look very natural, un-Hollywood, and the soundtrack is pretty OK. And Lemmy's in it!
