Have been enjoying volume one of the Old Grey Whistle Test DVD, which features some great performances from 70s-era rock icons like:

  • Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry totally makes whoopie to the camera, singing "Do the Strand" while Andy Mackay's extremely tight trousers compete for attention)
  • Edgar Winter Group delivering a scorching version of "Frankenstein" that briefly made me like the song. (Albinocore forever!)
  • A really moving and down-to-earth "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers.

This video also solves a mystery for me--never knew that "Mark Ellen" from Robyn Hitchock's song "Clean Steve" was an actual person. Leastways, I assume he's talking about Mark Ellen the host of OGWS.
