Part of my job requires tracking the Billboard Top 200 every week, and while there seems to be a pattern to what captures the heart of the American public (20% Christian rock/gospel, 20% rap, 20% country, 20% metal, 20% Latin/Norteno), there are always weird little surprises. Today, this album surfaced at #107.

New records!!

The new Franz Ferdinand is pretty good, if not incredibly innovative, and the new Magic Numbers CD is so dreamy and pretty without being twee.

I need more time with the new Supergrass and My Morning Jacket to have a solid impression, but I'll tell you that MMJ's song "Into the Woods" edges into Mercury Rev territory--chills-inducing circus music with reverb-whacked vocals...And you don't have to be a fan of Argentinian music to get that Mercedes Sosa's new one is lovely--mostly just her voice and guitar accompaniment.
