The front-of-the-book material in Best Nonrequired Reading of 2007 made me laugh out loud on the subway several times this morning, inspiring at least one puzzled head-turn in my direction, by someone who may have wondered why I was laughing at the subway conductor's announcement that went something like this: "Passengers, Blllllpppp bbrrrr mmmmmpppp, mmmmxxxppppxxx closing doors."
