I've been reading Josephine Tey's Daughter of Time this week, which concerns Richard III. It's not an historical mystery with Richard as a character, it's a present-day novel wherein a detective attempts to understand whether or not the gloomy and hapless and murderous fellow of legend has been given a bum rap, using evidence from source materials of the era.

It ain't exactly a romp, but it is much more interesting and fun than that description might sound.

In looking up the book to link to it, I just discovered that there is an active foundation whose goal is to restore and preserve Richard III's good name, and, more generally, encourage medieval scholarship. Nice.

I think it would be fun to see DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist's Hard Sell show (the tour is about to end), but inside in a club, not at McCarren Pool, which is the only local show planned. (Uh, this is not an anti-Wmsbrg thing, just not crazy about outdoor shows, and this show in particular looks like it would really suffer from not-stellar acoustics)

However, I may just settle for the DVD, an excerpt of which is below.
