All I know is that I knew and know someone well who Krs has criticized harshly in the past, and, being as objective as I can, (and DAMN can I be objective), I'd say he was remarkably clueless about her. (But maybe he, ya know, came up on the Borsht Belt, and those opinions were just part of his 'schtick'.) (Not that, even though he didn't, there isn't a regional rub-off.) My personal rule on rap is that, since it's more like pro wrestling than boxing, it better be amusing, (since it ain't 'real' singing?), and also that, since it's more or less spoken, any supposedly enlightening (instead of amusing) discourse ought to seem wise written down, as prose or poetry, which it rarely would. But plenty of it is as or more amusing than GLOW or Mexican wrestling, which makes up for all the WWF bluster crap. (And granted, a lot of it IS cleverer 'sung' than written down, but the same standard doesn't apply to cleverness that does to wisdom. Insight ought to hold up on paper, whereas great throwaway lines can be somewhat ephemeral.) (Incidentally, a fave "throwaway line" was one I saw in a trailer for a seventies porn flick [in a video that consisted of seventies porn trailers], where a woman lounging in bed tells someone off camera: "You know, talkin' to you is like jackin' off;; it's nice... but ain't no one to talk to.")
