I rented that movie a few months ago, & I guess I understand how they could be disappointed, but I really dug it. And that song, "Y'all is brutalizin' me", with its associated Mandy Patinkin stylings, is one of the funniest things I know & is burned into my brain. Along with Cross' nickname for himself: Baldy McJew.

I've had "Y'all" stuck in my head since happening upon the original sketch, back in November. It won't...go...away...

For the uninitiated, here are the lyrics, and imagine a schmaltzy, off-Broadway sort of melody:

I thought my home was my castle
with no one scrutinizing me
no pigs, no lyin' bitch, no hassle
y'all are brutalizing me
can a man not drink his beer in silence
can a man not crudely lie and scream
can a man not control his bitch with violence
y'all are brutalizing me
y'all are brutalizing....meeeeeee

It's the worst to hear a song in a store and be completely helpless in i.d.ing it.
I was in H&M last week and heard this song that I'm now obsessed with. It goes like this. Girl singer, real high: "ooooh, I'm in love, i'm in love, i'm in love, i'm in love, i'm innnnnn love." Then it would go up a half step: "ooooh, I'm in love, i'm in love, i'm in love, i'm in love, i'm innnnnn love." And so on.
I realized too late that they were playing a video somewhere and that could have helped me. I tried surfing the top hits on iTunes and couldn't find it, and had the bonus of getting freaked out by the songs that *were* there.
can anyone HELP???

Erica:

Sounds like an old Donna Summer hit, "I Feel Love". Does that sound right?

Erica:
What Paula said. Plus No Doubt covered it on the Zoolander soundtrack, so they may have been playing that version.

The *worst* thing is when you hear a great song in a Chinatown grocery and realize that 1. it's fantastic and 2. it's in Chinese, it's on a tape, and no-one in the store speaks english, therefore you will *never* find out what it was. Twice that's happened!

Paula - 2004-04-12 16:56:56
When that happens, I believe you are within your rights to simply demand the tape. You can come up with the sign language for that.

I got more information. Armed with knowledge, I went back to iTunes and discovered the version I had heard: It's a remix done by Blue Man Group featuring Tracy Bonham. They just released an album consisting entirely of remixes of that song!!

Erica - 2004-04-13 09:32:48
To clarify: It's not remixes of the Donna Summer version, but of the new original with Tracy.

That's...interesting. A whole album, eh?

Erica - 2004-04-13 14:54:32
Blue Man Group has never been known for its subtlety.

Glad that Tracy Bonham has some kinda hit on her hands. She's talented.
