I've tried without notable success to get people interested in Todd Steed and the Suns of Phere's Knoxville Tells, whose entire symbolic vocabulary is drawn from that fair city (though I think it can still be enjoyed quite a bit even if you don't have that context). It was my #2 pick of last year.

Knoxville, eh? Sounds cool. If anyone else has any interesting musical travelogue faves, comment away.

Who's that Tris dude who goes on and on about New Jersey, of all places?

'Car Wheels on a Gravel Road' inspired me to road trip to the Deep South. I visited many of the places Lucinda conjures in her incredible songs, including Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, Rosedale MS. Had to save the Loosiana towns for another time and darned if I didn't get so lost in Montgomery, AL looking for Hank Williams' grave.

I never thought of Car Wheels as an album of "place" but it really is, isn't it? How interesting that you had this experience.

I went to New Orleans shortly after Sweet Old World came out, and enjoyed matching Lucinda lyrics to highways, roads, town names...

My standard line is that Car Wheels should have been the first CD to be packaged with a free bonus gazetteer.
