Paula, re those buzzing grotesqueries, thinking back to your misspent youth, did you ever tie any cichada imitations? Certainly you wouldn't have been called on to imitate a generation of brood X, or whatever they call this one, cuz you would have been too young... but maybe another, less famous brood? (I'm just trying to understand you.)

Is this in reference to my fly tying obsession as a young'un? If so, major props for remembering.

I don't remember tying a cicada-like fly, but I do remember enjoying the Royal Coachman best.

I think we should make a rekid and call it Brood X, it should be all buzzy sounding, with big cresendos.

That was easy to remember given my (currently latent) fly fishing obsession as an old'un. And of course I was kidding about just trying to understand you, but might have cleared something up in the process, cuz I'd figured that it was your dad who was obsessed, with having flies tied for him. Cichada imitations seem bulky and unweildy anyway, though, (mere splatbugs), not being imitations of the Ephemera family, (mayflies), and thus unworthy of anyone's obsession. Cichada's themselves are indeed cool, though. (Especially to giant trout.)

Wombat:
I'm with ya on the Brood X album. I would someday like to replicate the buzzing, distorted sounds in my head as a sort of exercise in totally honest and abstract musical communication, instead of always wanting to make things purty and sensical.

Bob: Good call--I always enjoyed the tying more than the actual fishing, but the fishing part was a way to hang out with my dad. I still have a fondness for trout (and to a lesser extent bass) as animals. I like the way they look and behave.
