I'm not sure I like the fact that some of my best female friends over the years seem to have a thing for monkeys.

Hmmm... Paula in Pleather vs a monkey. Sorry, but I gotta vote against the monkey. This is still a democracy, right?

I've heard the "lockdown" rumor: like most conspiracy theories, it requires both too much and too little control. Too much, obviously, in that all the networks would need to be in (someone's?) pocket - and too little, in that if "someone" had all that power, why would they need to worry about piddly little network news at all? A better explanation is the usual: news is now primarily entertainment, and thus is market-driven. People do not want to hear the possibility that they're living under an illegitimate regime; news people know that (the owners don't have to tell them). Besides: someone forget to tell Keith Olbermann over at MSNBC about the lockdown. Or did the conspiracy-mongers just not notice that he's been covering the possibility of election fraud for the past couple weeks?
