The Amazon.com review is written by Aidin Vaziri, who also writes for the SF Chronicle - check out www.sfgate.com to find out why. He's the most controversial arts writer in the city. Nice to know he's branching out.

Why is it that decent-enough bands that everyone looooooves so much (Nirvana, Arcade Fire) are more annoying than mediocre and bad bands?

I think the movie/doc about Wilco was far more interesting than the band ever was. Of the Uncle Tupelo refugees my preference is Jay Farrar, but that's 50-50 also. I like perhaps 4 or 5 Son Volt songs and really liked the Sebastopol album... the rest, eh... Mr. Lojban, I have to agree, though I don't blame the bands. The shame rests on their fans. Jesus, I'm such a snob.

Because bad bands are forgiveable, but an overrated band brings all sorts of other characters into the circle of shame: an overeager press, clueless fans, grandmothers, space aliens, otters who seem like badgers, etc.
