Re Nebraska: Agreed, generally - except it's too damned intense to listen to regularly (I typed "enjoy" at first, but immediately realized that wasn't really right). I think its aesthetic also informs a lot of the more artsy end of alt-country folks as well - something I wrote about in a review a couple years back which, if I could remember which band it was, I'd link to, self-obsessedly. And is Bruce tellin' you to drop your G's? Re Bloody Marys: Rose, due to recently discovered food sensitivities, can no longer drink alcohol - but a good Virgin Mary has become her drink of choice. Me, I'm thrown off by all the flavors and crunchiness (Bloody Ms are basically salads with an excuse of alcohol) but I appreciate the concept.

I wonder: if you drank 13 Bloody Marys in front of a mirror in a darkened room, would you summon a malevolent spirit? Like you, I only began appreciating Bloody Marys (the spicier, the better) well into my 30s.

'Trix: Let us know how that goes. I suspect Mr. Villain will end up having to exorcise the spirit - with a mop.

Nebraska is better with the spine-tinglin', psychobilly "Born in the USA" on it.

Oops, I just found this entry -- Diaryland REALLY needs that RSS feed. However, I don't have much to say re: Bloody Marys. I've never had one -- they seem too salad-y, as 2Fs said, and besides, everyone knows that the best breakfast cocktail is the mimosa ;)
