I believe Wire and the Minutemen both have tons of songs that clock in at about a minute. Could be perfect.

What an interesting idea!I love Aerial Taal, but I can't think of any other songs that are that short.

We have big overlap in the one minute song department. coming in at 1:06 is Mean Mr Mustard by beatles, if your willing to take your songs that long

If I used songs between 1:02 - 1:05, I'd definitely have a lot more choices, including:

  • "My Heart and the Real World" (M-men)
  • "Sunshine And Clouds (And Everything Proud)" (ClapYHSYeah)
  • "The Return Of Clyde Smith" (Ghostface Killah)
  • a bunch more Erik Satie.

Most of Hitchcock's early, British-made films are quite delightful; I much prefer his first version of The Man Who Knew Too Much, for example, over the later American re-make -- if only for the presence of this actor.
The Residents have a whole album of songs that would fit in nicely with your work-out regimen -- although pumping iron to The Residents would be just plain... weird.

Also, exercising to Erik Satie has to result in the most languid, ruminative work-out ever -- if you include any of the Gnossiennes or Gymnopedies, that is -- I'm not sure you'd get much aerobic benefit out of it, but certainly there would be a lot of contemplative staring out of windows...

How about Evil Speakers by Guided By Voices - from Alien Lanes(.59)? There must be some Game Theory/Loud Family ones...maybe from Lolita Nation?

I need to dig up my copy of LF's Days for Days, with all those little interstitial bits--I bet they clock in at about the right time.

'cita - if you like THE 39 STEPS, maybe you will enjoy the entire series of six thrillers that Hitchcock made for Gaumont just before he came to the US. There was a time when film critics thought that the Gaumont films were the peak of Hitch's career, and that he sold out to Hollywood after that. Anyway, the next one to see would probably be THE LADY VANISHES.

As the father of three young kids I know what I am doing with Wonka's welcome song on my ipod, but what the hell are you doing with it?

    Paula - 2007-07-12 17:01:01
I am a Danny Elfman fan, and even though his stuff is getting really predictable, I thought some of the songs on the Wonka soundtrack were neat, especially the sinister "Augustus Gloop" and the sunshine pop of "Veruca Salt."

I really enjoyed the later remake of Thirty-Nine Steps with Robert Powell, perhaps better than the original film.

Well, Matthew Perpetua over at Fluxblog (dot org) wrote up the show - so I presume he went.
