I had to review an album of Patti Page singing songs from Manhattan Tower, a relatively obscure musical from the '50s, and I was looking for more info about it. Apparently, one of the songs from that show demonstrates the Golden Ratio!

And that is how Patti "Web" Page brings people together.

The "Fibonacci in Pop Music" blog is interesting -- I mean, who knew that The Allman Bros. "One Way Out" housed such mathematical arcana? I find these kinds of numerical synchronicities fascinating -- but then again, maybe both the writer of that blog and myself have seen this movie too many times.

Those of you who don't see the RSS feeds for this blog - and therefore miss Paula's little titles for the entries - will probably digest your dinner a bit better tonight, at least if horrifying puns disagree with your tummy. Anyway: one problem I have w/the Fibonacci guy is - how exactly is he defining "climax" in a song? (See, if I were a bad comedian, I might say, "how does he know the song isn't just faking it?" Good thing I'm not a bad comedian) In his description, he makes it sound as if this is always an *instrumental* section - as if the bridge (say) is the song's "climax." Given his "close enough" criterion, and the fact that pop music generally has a pretty straightforward structure, it's pretty likely that almost any song he analyzes (unless it's oddly structured - sorry, Beatles) is going to reveal his precious magical Fibo ratio somewhere. It's the Bible Code all over again methinks...
