Hey Paula, I think you are entirely missing the point of the value of, frayed, possibly falling apart panties (unmentionables), every little hole, a possibility... hey, you started it.

I saw Umbrellas during its theatrical re-release a while back (mid-90s, I think) and I can still hum the damn theme song. They must deploy it about 600,000 times over the course of the film. Also, I remember that a tantric engineer calls our hero "mon petit chou" ("my little cabbage" or possibly "my brussels sprout"). I had always assumed that expression was a mildly Francophobic joke. Great film, though. I love the eye-popping color, and the music is consisently excellent. The ending is very French, but it works. (By contrast, the ending of "Wages Of Fear" is even more French, and doesn't work.)

So is there any way to get paragraphs in these here comments?

Maybe like this?

"tantric engineer"--that's brilliant, Tim!

Hey Paula, are you ignoring me? is it out of kindness? if not I'm coming over there to put a spoke in yer wheel. OK, I'm out of control, I'm giving myself 5 minutes of quiet time.

Paula - 2004-03-11 13:09:25
No, Wombat, I am not ignoring you. Your underwear comments were duly noted. In fact, they've caused me to see the world in a whole new light. Thank you!

Oh, and here's some nice gossip for you: someone you play with was saying complimentary things about your musical abilities and attitude.

Oh! you're welcome!, and thankyou.

Three years??? My underwear barely lasts 6 months. I didn't realize I was so hard on it. I guess I should start shopping at Victoria's Secret. Do they carry boxer briefs?

The secret is not washing it.

Dogless:
Please send me photos of your critters so I can make 'em Intellectual House of Pancakes Pin Ups of the day, a la Hobie a few months back.

Paula, if you liked "Umbrellas," check out "The Young Girls of Rochefort." One of these days, I'll have to put Hobie on Dogster!

Paula - 2004-03-11 16:25:15
Sue: I just queued that on Netflix, thanks for the tip! And yes, it's imperative that you register Hobie, so that he can make friends with other virtual dogs.

What confuses me is that you apparently actually remember when you bought particular pairs of underwear. I can only estimate age based on wear-patterns, or occasionally carbon-dating, if I have access to a lab and the underwear happens to be carbon-based. But maybe if I had a good underwear database program...any suggestions?

Miles - 2004-03-11 19:53:18
I am sure that Collectorz.com probably has an "Underwear Collector" database program.

Yes it's true, there can be a lot of confusion regarding undergarments, when I was about 16, (and a dirty hippy) my uncle commented on the holes in my socks, rather mystified at how I wore them out so, he said he'd had the same socks for twenty years. My Aunt just smiled.

Tim - "mon petit choux" (cabbage) is a pretty standard endearment in French, if I'm not mistaken. 'cita - Opinions vary on Demy, of course, but the most commonly held one is that his first three films - LOLA, LA BAIE DES ANGES, and UMBRELLAS - are his best.

Dan: you're quite right, I'm sure. It still sounds rather Pepe Le Pew to me, though...
