Chicago rocks! Hard!

I'm s'tired of hearing about Reagan & now it's going to be Reagan Reagan Reagan all the time for years. He's kind of like de Gaulle.

Will they start renaming streets after him?

You know, my eyes will often well-up at the mention of a celebrity death, or at least an involuntary "oh!" will pass my lips. When I found out about Reagan, a president whose tenure defined my formative years, I felt nothing, had no response at all. I harbor no ill will towards the man, but I just don't care either way. And he was 93, led a full life even before the Alzheimer's.

Hey, the fella and I stayed at a trippy Kimpton hotel in DC last summer -- the Topaz. It also had a yoga-licious theme and instead of mints on the pillow, you got a little gris-gris bag of talisman stones. Plus your horoscope. And instead of the Gideon Bible, it was The Book of Confucius. Re. Reagan: my response was to shout, "Barf! Barf!" every time someone was quoted saying hyperbolic things about him on NPR. Make this gushy hagiography stop, now!

Trixie, the Topaz looks great...I love all hotels, even the skankiest or most boring, so you can imagine my delight at places that actually try to please the senses and spirit, even in the most goofy or hamfisted or cynical way.

I usally use the Gideon Bible as an Oracle, but I forgot to on this trip. But speaking of Confucius, I have reexamined my relationship with him in recent weeks. He was a good egg. He had such faith in humanity and people's innate desire to be/do good.

If you're a fan of Confucius, I have an encyclopedia to sell you.

What stuff of his are you reading?

Actually, I am just reading quotes of his (lazy reader) in the book I was yakkin' about the other day, Awake at Work. But if you have a recommendation (er, besides the not-totable-on-the-subway encyclopedia), please let me know where's the best place to start!
