Jamie Foxx was good (did you know that he went to Juilliard, and really played the piano in the movie?) - but I found Ray almost unwatchable because of those cliches. Also, I read they left out at least one wife, and a bunch of kids, from the story.

Not surprising...the wife in the movie seemed more to be a symbol of wifedom than an actual person, anyway.

Okay, I looked it up: they left out one wife (his first wife, with whom he had a child). Also, though it's supposedly mentioned in the credits, he had 12 children total with 7 different women.

There is an article about the Gang of Four CD here: http://slate.msn.com/id/2127526/ Excerpt: ...Yet the motivation for Gang of Four rerecording their songs also has a mundane, pragmatic aspect. "Covering" their own songs is a canny way of honoring and reactivating their legacy while ensuring that any benefits accrue to them. A straightforward repackaging of the old recordings, such as a compilation or box set, would only serve to enrich EMI, their original record company in the United Kingdom. And that's something Gang of Four didn't want to happen. "We have never made any money at all from record sales with EMI and still have unrecouped advances," King wrote in an e-mail. "So we didn't want them to benefit as they did nothing to support us."

Well, um, that's nice. And yet, also pretty cynical and a rip-off to fans.

"Here, we're selling you an album you really don't need or want so we can make the money that we didn't make 20 years ago."

Glad to help you guys out, now how about making a new record born out of a desire to actually make music?
