I am a big hillary fan. As someone best said "and every flesh-and-blood XX knows, men can throw phones and wastebaskets across the office and that's cool, but a woman who lets a tear fall is toast."

At least she didn't put Socks in a bag and tie the bag to an exhaust pipe

Holy Crap!!! What did he do with your pet turtle (assuming you had one of those)!?! Eject it from a Skeet thrower and blow it out of the sky with a twelve-gauge?

Holy Crap, indeed! Granted, whose dad isn't dysfunctional?, but that Henny Penny incident would be high on my list of therapist-couch-worthy incidents! Paula, appreciated your comments on the NH primary. The hypercriticism of Hillary reminded me of an episode of SpongeBob Squarepants. Squidward, despite his hardwork and substance lacks charm. Everyone loves Spongebob's act which consists of mopping the floor.(I like both Obama and Edwards too by the way.)And though not perfect, Gore and Kerry had similar problems lacking the perceived mojo-of-the-moment, I thought. The people: Gore gets very sweaty and he talks like a robot! Me:But He smoked pot every day for a year to recover from Vietnam. He was a congressman, senator, vice president, and he's super smart. The people: Kerry has a long face and he talks like a robot!Me:Watch the movie Winter Soldier. His bipolar ex-wife supported him, he was a decent senator, he's super smart. Grigorss-caught your Alien Moons last night. don't know anything about editing, but especially liked the shots of the roulette wheel:) And those JPL astronomers always seem as romantic as poets. (Too bad the fashion in TV credits nowadays is to zoom by.)

Slightly interesting thing with the tempo link. It was annoying, though: the first two clearly were [as revealed in the comments on that page], but... The last one's pretty easy, I think - but the author hasn't revealed the answer yet. I think one reason his little experiment isn't yielding good results is that his musical materials are too basic: just a single note in even rhythms isn't musical, it's just a rhythm. The study he cites used actually melodies, which would make a huge difference. As an aside: am I the only person in the world who simply can't properly "hear" the beats when hardcore punk goes too fast? Take your basic rock beat with snare hits on 2 and 4; speed it up to about 400 bpm (go on - pretend you're in Husker Du), and to me the "one" disappears and lands on the 2. Might be because I'm rarely hearing superfast hardcore on a decent stereo (i.e., I'm not hearing the kick drum, which usually would play on 1)...but I find that sort of beat rather comical, actually - like, cartoon sped-up goofiness rather than...uh, whatever it's supposed to convey.

I despise Hillary, but I admit that at least she's not a raving idiot -- like Caitlin Flanagan.

The only thing I hold against Hillary (besides the fack that she spells her name wrong) is not an ambition thing per se, but a bit of a "We're the only ones who can do it" thing... that this cycle happens to require more trashing than Bill's cycles did. That and some peep's unexplicit "she deserves it" sentiment. (As if Chelsea deserves to be drug into an unreversed role for another four years of her life or something.)

I'm not a Hillary supporter, nor a supporter of the Democrats in general, but she is held to unique scrutiny and it definitely is about being a woman. It's pretty disgusting, especially when even the GOP will crow about how far the country has come when a woman is a leading contender in the presidential race...yeah... even a woman. Imagine that! The way the "liberal" news media "the mythological liberal news media" has gone after her has had decent people tasting bile for several months now... which puts us level with the GOP and other creeps who actually like the taste of bile. Anyway, there are many valid reasons not to vote for Hillary Clinton, the latest being her "THAT'S NOT CHANGE" speeches attaching Obama, the gist of which comes down to "He says he's for change but guess what, he's JUST LIKE ME!!!!" Thanks Hil, for reminding me why I'd break my own fingers with a ball peen hammer before I'd pull your lever.

I'd break my own fingers with a ball peen hammer before I'd pull your lever. Harsh..that imagery is going to rattle around in my head for a while, probably because it touches on some deep truth? Of course, if I had my druthers, Paula Marie Carino would be President. Her mottos: "Ecstatic Truth" and "Dance or Die"...Yes, there would be initial resistance to her changing the party symbol to a sock monkey and mandatory Robin Hitchcock music appreciation courses starting in first grade, but it would eventually grow on people... (Even Vaclav Havel, one of the coolest presidents in our times-playwright, devotee of the Velvet Underground and Frank Zappa-became ragged on for being a boring sell-out shortly after he stepped into the arena.)

Sharon--I parted ways with the Democrats in the late 80s, taking a narrow turn to the left whilst they veered ever more sharply to the right. By the end of the convention in 1992 I was done with them for the most part. I think I've said this before but the final straw for me was that armed with the information that Israel was dropping cluster bombs on civilians in Lebanon in 2006, Clinton and Schumer both expedited the delivery of even more cluster bombs. I will not under any circumstances pull a lever for a pro-war candidate anyway. It would violate everything I believe in. But yes... I'd vote the Sock Monkey Party in a second. Go SMP!
-------------------------------
Sharon - 2008-01-10 13:11:42
Greg-My heart is definitely with the SMP, but now I'm intrigued... Who will you vote for? All the points you make about the failings of the democrats have merit. My political evolution has been [in American terms] from far [non-violent]left to center left.I think the Reagan years traumatized me?
-------------------------------
Greg - 2008-01-10 13:52:14
I may leave the presidential lever up, depending on who ends up at the top of the Green Party. (I could complain for days about Green Party strategy in the U.S.) For local elections I will support the candidate with the strongest Green agenda and/or the strongest Peace agenda.

Sharon - 2008-01-10 14:53:43
Thanks for getting me thinking....
-------------------------------
Greg - 2008-01-10 15:55:45
Sharon--my biggest gripe is that the Green Party expends too much of their energy (and money) going for the Gold... They'd be more effective doing what they've done in parts of Europe--getting as many Parliamentary (Congressional) seats as possible and then voting every issue as a bloc. They even blackmail other parties, i.e., you have our support IF... etc... Works even better on the state and municipal level. Too many people "settle" on the lesser of two evils when they go to vote, not happy with either candidate but afraid not to be heard at all. At this point in time the two major parties have done NOTHING for three decades... less than nothing when you do a body count. I believe in my heart that they would happily go another three decades without a single meaningful and positive change.
-------------------------------
Bob - 2008-01-10 22:31:55
That strikes me as Obama's big advantage;; he's had tons of "individual voter" money practically thrown at him, and hasn't had to let his back be scratched as much as, well, any other viable candidate in three decades. (And the Clintons... bless their hearts... are so not all about that.)
